The basilica at Paray-le-Monial, a Cluniac site, is one of the finest examples of Burgundian Romanesque art. It is considered to be a "scale model" of the Abbey of Cluny. Its balanced proportions and racy elegance are particularly evident in the tiered apse. The recently restored north portal, adorned with motifs inspired by Muslim art, is extremely elegant. A dazzling testimony to the genius of the Cluniacs, the basilica today exalts the fervour of pilgrims from all over the world. The complete restoration of the basilica's interior has restored its unrivalled luminosity. The adjoining cloister garden, inspired by medieval architecture, is also well worth a visit.
